Rick O’Gorman of the Dept of Psychology at the University of Essex has launched a free event in Colchester called Café Scientifique which is held at the Love Bistro in The Minories.
Café Scientifique is a place where, for the price of a cup of coffee or a glass of wine or beer, anyone can come to explore the latest exciting ideas in science and technology.
Cafe Scientifique is a forum for debating these ideas. Each session, a scientist gives a short introduction to an area of expertise of interest to the wider public and, following a coffee break, takes questions from the audience. It is an opportunity to ask questions of, and chat with, scientists in an informal setting.
Initially, there are five sessions between March 31st and June 2nd. If the organisers can attract a good regular attendance the intention is to then continue on a monthly basis after the summer .
The next speaker at Cafe Scientifique is Michael Steinke on April 14th, talking about how the smell of the sea actually influences our climate!
The event starts at 7:30pm and everyone is welcome.
