Colchester Poetry Slam No, 1On Thursday 2nd December, Colchester Arts Centre is holding its first ever poetry slam. If you’re a poet, MC, spoken-word artist or simply have the nerve required to express yourself in front of a room full of people then this could be the event for you.

A slam is not your average poetry competition. All entrants are given three minutes to perform a piece which is then marked by a panel of judges based on content, performance and audience reaction with top scorers progressing to the next round.

This fun, vibrant form of competition offers a fine opportunity for performers of any experience level to get some stage time, sound out their pieces to a live audience, meet other local spoken-word artists and potentially win a prize and a shiny, shiny  trophy.

There may also be some familiar faces over on the judges table and multi-slam winning poet David J. will be hosting the whole affair and filling in the gaps in slam action with his own brand of emotionally powerful, hip-hop infused performance poetry.

A slam, however, is nothing without competitors so if you want three minutes to tell the world what’s on your mind please email or call the arts centre on 01206 500900 and leave a name and a contact number or email address.
