On May 19th, 20th and 21st you can come and see what’s on offer at Wivenhoe Printworks!
We run a bright and friendly print workshop with a wide range of facilities for regular members, occasional users and course attendees.
During the May 2023 Wivenhoe Art Trail weekend we are running hour-long taster sessions where you can try out a new print process for just five pounds!
Drypoint: 19/05/2023
In the Drypoint sessions you get to make and print an etching using a simple process that can be done at home, school or in any small studio. Create fine line drawings, use a variety of tones and textures, and print your work out on top quality Fabriano art paper using our lovely Dutch etching presses.
Drypoint is an exciting and accessible way to start exploring the beauty and immediacy of etching with the minimum of special materials and equipment. It’s the ideal intro for the beginner who has an interest in drawing, and is an ideal stepping stone for those who may want to go on to explore metal plate chemical or electro-etching (which we also do).
Linocut: 20/05/2023
Linocut printing is often the first kind of printing anyone tries, and usually the kind people would be familiar with through printing at school. It involves the removal of material from a piece of ‘lino’ to create a ‘relief’ image (the areas you cut away are not printed). Although simple, the process can become as complex as you’d like with additional layers of colour being added. In this workshop you will just carve a simple one colour plate and go home with two prints!
Screen print on fabric: 21/05/2023
This form of printing utilises a silkscreen (a mesh on a frame) and a squeegee. Firstly you will cut a simple paper stencil and use this to block areas on your screen – we will guide you through the whole process and you’ll take home a little patterned piece of fabric that, when dry, you can use for something lovely & creative, or simply as re-useable wrapping paper! It will all become clear when you come and try it out and you’ll be amazed at the ‘just like magic’ results!
Please note: all workshops are suitable for ages 12 and over, any under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. Thanks!
