Suffolk Painters: Constable and Munnings
Fri, June 2 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

This day course looks at the painters John Constable and Alfred Munnings. It will look at the influence of Suffolk on their art and how this places their work within art of their period and further into the 21st century.
Whilst looking at some of their contemporaries, we will try to answer the question what influence, if any, they had on them. We will also look at Constable’s and Munnings’s lasting influence on modern artists.
Consequently, the artworks examined come from many different periods and genres. For example, those of Maggi Hambling, whose depictions of landscapes and seascapes could be argued as being in the tradition of Constable. Also, British impressionist Philip Wilson Steer, who was influenced by the Impressionists.
Throughout the day, women artists will not be ignored.
