SUMMARY:Tim Noble & Sue Webster: Love and Hate at Firstsite
DESCRIPTION:Noble & Webster have created a remarkable group of anti-monuments in their 24-year career\, mixing the strategies of modern sculpture and the attitude of punk to make art from anti-art. \nTheir work derives much of its power from its fusion of opposites\, form and anti-form\, high culture and anti-culture\, male and female\, craft and rubbish\, sex and violence. \nIn this presentation\, eight light sculptures by Noble & Webster illuminate areas of the Firstsite building with pops of glimmering colour. \nThis series of light sculptures reference iconic pop culture symbols represented in the form of shop-front-type signage and carnival shows inherent of British seaside towns\, Las Vegas and Times Square. With the aid of complex light sequencing these signs perpetually flash and spiral out messages of everlasting love\, and hate. \nPlease note\, that this exhibition contains works including flashing lights and contrasting colours across the building. For further information please speak to a member of staff. \n  \nAbout Tim Noble & Sue Webster \nIn 2009\, Noble & Webster were awarded Honorary Degrees of Doctor of Art at Nottingham Trent University in recognition of their contribution to contemporary British Art and their radical influence on younger generations of artists. In 2007\, they were awarded the ARKEN Prize at Arken\, Museum of Modern Art\, Copenhagen for outstanding contribution to the international scene of contemporary art\, in the same year their critically acclaimed project Polymorphous Perverse at the Freud Museum was nominated for the prestigious South Bank Prize. \nSince their first solo show in London\, British Rubbish in 1996\, Noble & Webster have enjoyed international recognition with solo exhibitions at Rockefeller Plaza\, New York\, 2008\, The Freud Museum\, London\, 2006\, CAC Malaga\, 2005\, Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston\, 2004\, P.S.1/MoMA\, New York\, 2003\, Milton Keynes Gallery\, UK\, 2002\, Deste Foundation\, Athens\, 2000 and The Chisenhale Gallery\, London\, 1999. SUMMARY:DM Lab Colchester - DIY Electronic Instruments
DESCRIPTION:Experiment with building your own instrument\, with a custom MIDI controller! \nAt this months DMLab we’ll play with simple circuits and Arduino programming to create custom interfaces to control computers\, also known as MIDI controllers. Maybe yours will use a distance sensor\, or perhaps big colourful buttons in a unique orientation? All equipment provided (including template arduino code). No prior knowledge needed. \nParticipants are welcome to bring their own laptop if they wish. Please note that this project is aimed at people age 18 and over\, and all experience levels are welcome. \nDMLab Colchester is an exciting collaboration between CLIP and Drake Music. For the next three years\, from November 2025\, we’ll host monthly meet ups bringing together an inclusive community of makers and musicians on a regular basis\, to support the development of new accessible musical instruments. DMLab Colchester is an inclusive\, community-led space for musicians and creative technologists\, disabled and nondisabled\, to create\, hack instruments\, jam & explore new ways to make music. Join Red Riding Hood as she goes on this exciting adventure\, meeting both furry friends and foes alike! Red is an adventurous young spirit who wants nothing more than to see the world. Her wish comes true when she is sent to fetch her poor old granny in the woods some bread. \nHowever\, things turn from weird to weirder\, as along the way she encounters a group of deranged dancing dogs\, curiously choral creatures\, and a certainly fierce furry foe. \nThis pantomime will have you singing\, clapping\, and screaming “IT’S BEHIND YOU” in no time! \nWritten by Naiden Janes\, Directed by Christina Davies\, and performed by University of Essex Theatre Arts Society.

Until recently he has been employed as a teacher at DIEM (Danish Institute for Electro-acoustic Music) at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus\, Denmark.
