SUMMARY:Against the Tide
DESCRIPTION:What does it mean to grow up by the sea today? \nFrom ambition and creativity to isolation and inequality\, explore intimate photographs and firsthand accounts that document what life is really like for young people growing up in coastal Britain. \nAbout the exhibition \nDocumentary photographer Polly Braden and journalist Lisa Bachelor spent more than a year travelling to coastal communities across England\, working closely with young people aged 16–25 using photographs\, film and personal stories to explore their lives. \nCreated as part of The Guardian’s Seascape series\, Against the Tide looks beyond the negative portrayals to reveal a more complicated picture of coastal Britain today. \nAcross Tendring\, Weston-super-Mare\, Scarborough\, Grimsby\, Southend\, Portsmouth\, Whitehaven\, Rhyl and Blackpool\, Polly’s photographs bring us into the lives of a generation growing up in some of the most deprived and often-forgotten places in England. \nAlongside accounts of isolation and lack of opportunity are expressions of resilience\, ambition and hope\, and a clear message: coastal towns are not just sites of decline\, but places of creativity and possibility. \nYoung people involved in this exhibition have created their own photographs\, exchanged ideas with peers and shared their experiences with UK policymakers\, showing how creativity and personal stories together can help inform decisions about coastal communities beyond words and numbers. \nWhat to expect \nDiscover intimate portraits\, honest first-hand accounts and a close-up look at the everyday lives of young people growing up in coastal England. \nPolly’s photographs are paired with the words and experiences of the young people she met\, creating a layered portrait of places that are often overlooked or reduced to stories of decline. \nThese artworks reflect both the challenges and strengths of coastal communities. Young people speak about education\, work\, mental health\, belonging and opportunity. \nThey also share stories of friendship\, creativity\, resilience and pride in where they come from. \nAbout Polly Braden \nPolly Braden is a documentary photographer known for her intimate\, long-term collaborations. \nHer work focuses on overlooked communities and social issues\, and her distinctive style combines quiet observation with deep empathy. \nPolly believes art can do more than tell stories. It gives people a chance to speak for themselves\, encourages empathy and starts conversations about issues that matter. \nWith special thanks to Attwells Solicitors\, Seán Kelly\, and Catherine for their generous contribution towards this exhibition. \n

SUMMARY:Rewriting Your Own Story | Archetypes Workshop with Angela Blacklaw
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Angela Blacklaw. Awaiting ticketing information. \nRegister interest HERE \nTUESDAY 2ND and WEDNESDAY 3rd February \n\n9.30am-5pm  Limited spaces\n\nAngela Blacklaw: “to add quote” \nRewriting Your Own Story is an in-depth two-day workshop\, exploring your personal life story with the help of 12 distinct archetypes – a model developed by Carol Pearson\, based on the work of Carl Jung. We take a look at how they manifest indifferent parts of your life\, and which of those archetypes is at the core of your own personal brand and life purpose. This work is not simply about self-discovery\, it’s also about self-empowerment\, ownership\, awareness and the creative call to be able to move forward in a way you feel best suits you. \nThe workshop is run by Angela Blacklaw. She has been studying and working witharchetypes for over 20 years and her research on the application of archetypes to contemporary songwriting has been published by Research In Teaching Education. \nOver the course of two days\, Angela will work with you to help you reveal your own true nature\, discover your innate gifts and abilities\, recognise where you are best suited in life and appreciate your strengths as well as understand your areas of challenge. In each session we will discover more and go deeper. Ultimately you create your personal purpose and your own\, rich\, unique and unmistakable story to guide you in making conscious choices in your life. This is particularly beneficial for educators\, therapists\, leaders\, creatives\, small\nbusiness owners and anyone for whom the quality of their presence is a major factor in the work that they do. \n“Intellectually stimulating and emotionally/cognitively transformative.”\n“This was a game changer in coming to understand my life and journey so far.”\n“Extremely impactful! I will be able to use this work in all aspects of my life”\n“Significant! It has really stayed with me and has strongly influenced my thinking andapproach already” \n“I now have a deep sense of self and a framework to describe life experiences”\n“It gave me a new perspective on who I was… I still reflect on this today and I would definitely recommend it” \n£100 per person for both days\, includes a detailed workbook. \nRecommended books can be bought or ordered from Red Lion Books. \nAngela Blacklaw \nRewriting Your Own Story \nArchetypes Workshop
