Language and the future

Sat, November 9, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Discover how language works and meet the experts from the University of Essex. This event is part of the Festival of Social Science 2019.

Join us for a fascinating series of talks and discover how language really works. Explore the sounds and creation of words, learn how we use language to express and create identity, all in a unique gallery setting in the heart of Colchester.

Language is all around us. We use language to connect with others, study, send work e-mails, tell jokes, and convey our deepest thoughts. But how does language work? And what does this mean in a constantly more global culture?

This series of talks will be hosted by Dr Kyle Jerro , Dr Tracey Costley , Dr Hannah Gibson and Dr Ella Jeffries from the Department of Language and Linguistics . This is your chance to meet the experts on linguistics, multilingualism, language contact and sociolinguistics.

The event will run from 12pm – 3pm on Saturday 9 November at the Firstsite Gallery in Colchester. A free selection of mezes will be provided from 12pm by White Gardenia.
