DESCRIPTION:Through the Window – The album by Mad Dan \nThis is a free event to celebrate this original album.There will be opportunities to buy the album on CD or vinyl on the day and Mad Dan will be performing some original tracks for your listening pleasure. \nInsta: mad_dan_music \nAbout us\, Mad Dan\, the band you’ve never heard of…. \nBack in the 1970s\, cousins Chris French and Steve Wells formed a band with Steve’s brother and two others. Writing and performing their own material during the heyday of progressive rock\, they never gained any traction outside a few local gigs. Life intervened but\, four decades later\, Chris and Steve got back together and decided to write and record an album. \nWith home production technology they gradually assembled the material using virtual and real instruments. The next step was to find some good vocalists to sing the lyrics and complete the project. Through family and friends\, contact was made with Jacq Kingsbury\, Matt Burgess and James Gerard who kindly agreed to take part. \nThrough the Window\, the album… \nSteve wrote all the lyrics on the album and Chris did the sleeve artwork and design. The first six songs loosely follow a theme that relates to the conflict between the real world and the online world seen through screens (Through the Window) and the wider ramifications of that conflict. \nMad Dan? Where did the band name come from? Now that would be telling… \nWe can’t wait to see you there. \nSaturday 17th October 12pm til 4pm \nThree Wise Monkeys Colchester (Top Floor) 60 High Street\, Colchester\, CO1 1DN. DESCRIPTION:Lepra historian Irene Allen comes to Colchester Library for a special talk exploring the history of the charity. \nTaking place as part of the New Face for Leprosy exhibition\, From Belra to Lepra will look at the organisation’s history and its work to improve the lives of people affected by leprosy. \nThe wider exhibition brings together photography from the New Face for Leprosy project with artefacts from Lepra’s archives\, documenting the organisation’s work and achievements throughout the 20th century. \nThe New Face for Leprosy project was conceived by Emeritus Professor Diana Lockwood and features photography by Tom Bradley\, who travelled to Lepra programmes in India and Bangladesh to meet and photograph people affected by the disease. \nIrene Allen’s talk begins at 4pm on Wednesday 21st October 2026 at Colchester Library.

Meet the mighty Juliasaurus and join us for a roar‑some dinosaur sleepover inside the castle. Pitch your campsite\, meet our rangers\, uncover hidden areas\, and dive into hands‑on dinosaur activities. Wind down with a cup of hot chocolate before drifting off\, then wake up to a light breakfast to start the day \nThis event is suitable for ages 5+; an adult must accompany all children. \nFor details of where you can sleep and prices\, see our Knightzzz Sleepover Floor Plan. \nFor a schedule of the night\, directions to the museum and answers to many other questions\, see our Frequently Asked Questions. \nSome of our activities may include tours using the stairs. Due to the age of our building\, there are no lifts available to some areas of the castle. If you have any physical accessibility needs\, please contact us on 01206 282939 so we can make suitable adjustments. \nWe cannot allow inflatable mattresses or camping beds of any kind (unless for medical reasons). DESCRIPTION:Last here performing as a member of the Joni Reimagined Quartet\, when she wowed the audience with her superb vocals\, be prepared once more to be mesmerised and captivated by the voice of Jana Varga. \n​Citing a mixture of influences – from classical music to songwriters such as Janis Ian\, James Taylor\, and the well-travelled folk of Paul Simon – Jana’s music transcends boundaries and takes audiences on a timeless journey. \n​With a genuine passion for storytelling\, Jana weaves rich narratives into every note\, evoking emotions and connecting listeners to the heart and soul of her music. She has her own distinct voice that continues to evolve. \nRaised on the outskirts of Bratislava and born into a musical family\, Jana was immersed in music from a young age. As a child\, she was already performing traditional Slovak songs and went on to study classical music in Austria and France. In 2014 she became a flautist in the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra in Czechia\, when she decided to pursue the career of a singer-songwriter and moved to London. \nCo-produced by Fred Mollin (Billy Joel\, Jimmy Webb) and nominated in the Emerging Artist category of the British Blues Awards\, Jana’s 2022 debut album\, Foreigner Face\, was described as a “fascinating mixture of styles and very original” by Paul Sexton (BBC Billboard) and “amazingly beautiful” by songwriting legend Janis Ian.​ \nJana’s subsequent headline tour introduced her music to a wider UK audience and saw her first international collaboration with the Varga Quartett Wien\, a noted Austrian classical string quartet based in Vienna and led by her brother\, Pavol. \nPerformances alongside platinum-selling artist Rumer and other esteemed vocalists have garnered Jana international acclaim. Notably\, in late 2023\, she graced the stage at the O2 Indigo as part of Rumer’s band\, captivating audiences both as an opening act and a key member of the ensemble. \n​Earlier this year\, Jana released Chicory\, which was described by one music critic as “rich in cinematic overtones”\, and she’ll be performing material from that eponymous album\, plus songs from Foreigner Face and material by iconic performers such as Joni Mitchell\, Paul Simon\, Dusty Springfield\, and Carly Simon. \n​For this intimate\, stripped-back show\, Jana is accompanied by pianist Sam Watts.
