SUMMARY:Flook
DESCRIPTION:FolkTickets £18.50 / £17.50 concessions.Doors open 7.30pm\, starts 8pm.This gig is for a seated audience. \nFLOOK : CELEBRATING 30 YEARS IN 2025! \n What began in 1995 as a ground-breaking union of musicians and instruments\, has continued as a unique musical offering through one live album\, four studio albums and countless outstanding performances. A new recording is due for release in early 2025. After 30 years Flook show no sign of letting-up in their brilliance\, their dynamism\, or their inventive flair. \nThe band early on evolved an inimitable trademark sound and hold fast to their rightful reputation as exceptional musical innovators; the whistles and flutes of Brian Finnegan and Sarah Allen\, the guitar of Ed Boyd and the bodhran of John Joe Kelly weaving and spinning tunes rooted in tradition over precise acoustic grooves\, with a rare blend of fiery technical brilliance\, delicate ensemble interaction and a bold\, adventurous musical imagination. \nThere is an ever present abundance of individual virtuosity amongst Flook’s four members\, but there is also something wholly unique when this iconic Anglo-Irish band step on stage together\, their playing always an intuitive\, almost symbiotic\, exchange between the various flutes\, whistles\, frets and skins. An evening and a celebration you don’t want to miss out on. \n‘An absolute powerhouse\, a flute and whistle-led\, eight-legged jig machine. Jigs\, reels and waltzes whirl by. Each as glorious as the last\, the musicianship as extraordinary\, the mood never any less than euphoric’ FATEA Live Review\, November 2023 \n‘Nothing short of transcendent… No other band sound like Flook and the new material has pushed them to new\, exhilarating heights’ Songlines\, July 2019 \n‘Never have I seen so many people so completely and utterly spellbound…the most magical of experiences’ The Irish Post

SUMMARY:In Conversation with James Birch: Gilbert & George and the Communists
DESCRIPTION:EA Festival kicks off a new event series in partnership with Essex Book Festival and The Minories. \nTo inaugurate the series of art-themed talks\, James Birch\, the curator\, gallerist and art impresario with many ties to East Anglia\, will introduce his newest book\, Gilbert & George and the Communists. The book memorialises James’ experience of mounting major art exhibitions in Moscow and China for the irreverent and iconic art duo\, Gilbert & George\, after the great success of bringing Francis Bacon to Russia in 1988. (The latter experience was documented by James in his book\, Bacon in Moscow\, published in 2022.) The reader is propelled forward by Birch’s sensitive retelling of his relationship with Gilbert and George\, and his quest to understand the moorings of their art\, while negotiating the black box decision making processes of his Communist patrons\, all during one of the most tumultuous eras of political upheaval in those two countries (perestroika and Tiananmen). It’s a multi-faceted romp through the art world and politics of the late 80s and early 90s that James will bring to life when he joins us on stage at The Minories. \nAbout James Birch \nJames is a curator who has promoted modern art exhibitions around the world for over 30 years. He opened his first gallery in 1983\, followed by two more in London over the next two decades. James has exhibited artists including Grayson Perry\, Francis Bacon\, Gilbert & George\, Genesis P Orridge\, Austin Osman Spare and Denis Wirth-Miller.

SUMMARY:An Evening with The Inbetweeners' Joe Thomas!
DESCRIPTION:ComedyTickets £19.Doors open 7.30pm\, starts 8pm. \nWe’re talking all things The Inbetweeners at this special evening with actor/comedian Joe Thomas! \nIt wasn’t long after audiences were first introduced to hapless sixth-formers Will McKenzie\, Neil Sutherland\, Jay Cartright and Simon Cooper that The Inbetweeners became one of the nation’s best loved shows. With its endlessly quotable lines and outrageous laugh-per-second banter\, the sitcom attracted record-breaking viewing figures and inspired two incredibly successful feature films. \nCelebrating seventeen years since the show’s debut\, Joe Thomas aka Simon Cooper is here in-conversation all about the series and taking questions from the audience. Hearing all about Joe’s favourite Inbetweeners moments and behind the scenes misadventures\, as well as its impact on his own life as an actor/comedian\, this promises to be an exciting evening of humour and insight from one of the nation’s best loved young sitcom stars. We’ll also\, of course\, be touching on Joe’s other work\, including Fresh Meat\, White Gold and TaskMaster! \nJoe is happy to stay around for a short while after the show\, meet fans and take pictures!

SUMMARY:The Smyths: Meat Is Murder 40
DESCRIPTION:GIGSTickets £21.50.Doors open 7pm\, starts 8pm.This gig is for a standing audience. \n2025 sees the 40th anniversary of The Smiths’ legendary second album “Meat is Murder”. \nArguably the band’s most controversial release (the band considered it as a protest album)\, not only did it do more than anything in pop culture to encourage a generation to become vegetarians\, but it was also the first album to introduce Morrissey’s criticism of the Royal Family. \nComing a year on from the band’s debut\, “Meat Is Murder” showed the band moving its musical might to a muscular new sound (whilst still maintaining it’s ability to produce heart-breakingly beautiful songs). \nThe Smyths present “Meat is Murder “in its entirety alongside Smiths classics and hits.
