DESCRIPTION:The day’s drawing will focus on Harry Becker’s great facility for drawing from life. Alongside artist Jevan Watkins Jones\, study a selection of Becker’s drawings\, experiment with his techniques and assimilate them with your own through creative drawing tasks in the Front Room and from life in the garden. \nBasic drawing materials will be supplied. You’re welcome to bring your preferred materials also. \nThis drawing workshop celebrates the acquisition of a new Becker drawing\, Horses and Binder Teams for the VBLF collection held at The Minories. Funds raised from this workshop will be put towards future acquisitions.  \nHis drawings\, etchings\, lithographs and paintings capture\, with passion and sensitivity\, labourers in the field and horses at work in the landscape he most cared for. \nHarry Becker lived at The Minories with his parents and siblings between 1865 and 1903.It’s from here that he started out on his artistic journey studying at the Royal Academy in Antwerp aged fourteen 1879 – 81.

DESCRIPTION:Come and join us on Monday 21st September 2026 at The Dog & Pheasant\, 24 Nayland Rd\, Colchester CO4 5EG for a relaxed and enjoyable evening painting our NEW Just Slothing Around under the expert instruction of our workshop leader Sarah.  \nNo experience needed. You can either follow the step by step instructions or ‘express yourself’ by putting your own personal touches on it as much as you feel comfortable to do so. If you so wish\, you can change the colours (maybe to fit in with home décor or a favourite colour)\, change the silhouettes (if applicable) or add extra details. We just love it when people get creative but we are equally as happy when people stick to the set piece. It’s totally your choice. At the end of the evening you will have a painting that you love to take home and cherish. \nWe supply everything you need to paint including a blank 16” by 20” stretched canvas\, quality acrylic paints and brushes\, paint palette\, water pot and apron.  \nWhilst our events are aimed at adults\, this venue is family friend and therefore older children are welcome to come paint with their parent(s) or guardian(s). \nThis event will start promptly at 7:00pm and run to around 10pm.
