DESCRIPTION:2026 marks a milestone anniversary for tenor saxophonist and bandleader Simon Spillett; 30 years on the UK jazz scene. Since his debut in the 1990s he has risen to become one of Britain’s most prominent jazz figures.  \nAn instrumentalist with a powerful\, straight-ahead style\, drawing on the best of the jazz tradition and in particular the inspiration of an illustrious forebear\, the late great Tubby Hayes (whose music he’ll be performing)\, he is highly popular attraction playing sold out gigs at the best jazz clubs and at virtually every festival of consequence with both his regular quartet and his star-studded big band. \nAs a recording artists he has released five well-regarded albums\, with his big band debut CD\, Dear Tubby H. Welcoming artists at any experience level\, it is a space to network\, meet and develop your practice. \nOccurring between 10am and 1pm\, you are welcome to drop in anytime. \nWe meet in the Upstairs Bar at the Mercury Theatre. If you need assistance finding your way\, please ask a member of our Box Office or Front of House staff\, and they will guide you. \nThis event is produced in collaboration with Graeae Theatre Company. \nThe Mercury’s Graeae Associate\, Christian Markham\, will always be in attendance to facilitate and/or answer any questions you might have about the Mercury\, Graeae\, or wider disabled arts initiatives.
