DESCRIPTION:**Please Read Full Description Before Submitting Your Order** \nPlease Note: This Communal Raku Firing Session is held at Cuckoo Farm Studios .  \nLed by Peter Jones with support from Makerspace Technician Ed Dan — we supply all the Raku glazes\, materials and fire — you just need to bring your ceramics!  \nIMPORTANT NOTES:– Booking for the course will be closed 5 working days prior to the session date– A minimum of 5 attendees need to sign up in advance for it to go ahead– If cancelled\, members will be informed and refunded– Otherwise no refunds or transfers– Attendees must be aged 18+– We provide an optional additional Raku Club – Hand-building session for those needing support on how to hand build clay objects suitable for Raku firing. See here for dates .– You will be working outside\, so please dress appropriately– Vegan soup\, sourdough bread and drinks provided. Feel free to bring your own snacks.– Raku firing is a rapid process\, only a few objects at a time will be able to be fired; this means the session will be extended over the whole day– The process has limits in terms of object size and suits objects that are not too big\, a size of H200mm vase form is approximately the largest that can be managed safely \nABOUT RAKU: Raku is a rapid low-firing process that is inspired by the traditional Japanese Raku firing. Western-style Raku involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat around 1000 centigrade and placing it into containers with combustible materials such as sawdust. Once the materials ignite\, the containers are closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colours in glazes and clay bodies. Come along to each session to experiment with a different theme – or pick and choose the ones you want to focus on. \nThemes Mark making – Sun 4 Oct Shading – Sun 1 Nov What is life drawing? During a life drawing session\, there will be a nude model surrounded by artists. This is why the classes are limited to ages 18+. \nThe model will be posing for different durations. The poses can vary from 2 minutes to 10 minutes and an hour. You will be drawing the human form in various poses and levels of detail from highly detailed and anatomically proportional drawings to loose and expressive sketches. \nAbout the artist – Justine Moss (she/her) I am an artist\, educator and collector of wonderful things. I use drawing and watercolour to make sensitive\, detailed or implicative studies of subjects including clothes\, nature and the figure. \nI am currently completing a PhD on drawing garments in film. I run a thriving life-drawing group and lead community art workshops for adults. I have lived in East Anglia for fifteen years and worked in art education across the region\, from Southend to Great Yarmouth.

Bring your own book and perhaps a blanket and a take out coffee. \nYour £8 ticket provides the space to read and you will be given a £10 book voucher (which can be exchanged at any time) \nThe idea was created by bookseller Joe Hedinger in response to research from the UK charity The Reading Agency\, which found that 67% of UK adults would like to read more and we couldn’t word it better.  Here he says\, \n‘The research found that reading wasn’t just for entertainment. Nearly two thirds of people said they’d like to turn to a book in times of stress\, anxiety or illness. However\, people struggle to find time to read\, because the demands and distractions of hectic lifestyles get in the way. \n‘Our idea was to think about reading as a practice. Rather than snatching a few lines before bed or on your commute\, what if reading was something you committed regular time to — just like putting an hour aside for the gym\, yoga or meditation? \n‘Considering the pace of modern life\, taking a moment to slow down and focus on one thing isn’t just good for our wellbeing – it’s actually quite a rebellious act!’
