SUMMARY:Live electronica: Surfies + John Callaghan + Nukleopatra + Don Quöng + The Maghreban
DESCRIPTION:Mad live electronic music to “officially” open the square outside of Roots & Grooves Café in Colchester*! Free entry\, with doors opening at around 7:30pm… \nSurfies is a mysterious musical collective\, reportedly based in Kansas\, USA\, whose Dadaist electronic songs have disrupted the minds of late-night Adult Swim viewers since 2022. This is their first ever UK show.⁦https://surfies.bandcamp.com⁩https://youtu.be/O6QZmbcYUxw?si=8Fxq3BLmJg97Dvpk&t=581 \nJohn Callaghan is an unusual songwriter/performer of thoughtful and spiky electronica from Birmingham. His 1998 single for Warp Records\, ‘I’m Not Comfortable Inside My Mind’\, is reportedly the cheapest video ever shown by MTV.⁦https://johncallaghan.co.uk⁩ \nNukleopatra has been producing and performing electronic music since late 2024\, combining sampling with original songwriting to craft techno-pessimist electro pop on the fossil fuel industry\, the exploitation of workers producing tech commodities\, the performance of gender on social media\, and more.https://linktr.ee/nukleopatra \nDon Quöng are two rave dads who use a fully-hardware rig to make you dance.https://soundcloud.com/don-quoeng \nDJ The Maghreban has cut a niche for clever\, forceful dance music\, fuelled by mischievous sample play and inspired by his background in hip hop and jungle.https://www.instagram.com/maghreban \n*not\, despite what the map may say\, Coggeshall – this is the cafe opposite Primark x

Once the materials ignite\, the containers are closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colours in glazes and clay bodies. The thermal shock of this also produces cracking/crazing\, producing unexpected outcomes. If you have any questions regarding the course\, please email hello@makercampus.co.uk \nYOUR TUTORLed by Peter Jones\, a ceramic artist who has run his own studio for over 26 years. He has exhibited widely and is currently an associate artist for the British ceramics biennial\, and consults and assist on many technical aspects of ceramics for artists and organisations. SUMMARY:Alice D'Lumiere: Old\, New\, Borrowed & Blue!
DESCRIPTION:Pay What You Can AffordDoors open 7.30pm\, show starts 8pm.This show is for a seated audience. \nWritten and Performed by Alice d’LumiereOriginal Music by Tina GoodingPianist – Daniel Lee ChappellMovement Director – Angelica Bangs \nA Portmanteau of Poems\, Songs\, Comedy and other Absolute Nonsense – Warning: May contain traces of Marriage and other Naughtiness! \nAlice d’Lumiere\, at her own admission\, over-writes wildly; having now completed three full-length solo shows: “Illuminating Alice”\, “Speaking Out and Fitting In” and “Trans Lady Sings!” with another\, “The Literal Translation”\, on its way in 2026… \nAlice is taking an evening away from her steaming word processor to bring you some favourite moments from her previous shows\, interspersed with some brand new material with\, unusually for this hyper-productive ego-maniac\, some favourite songs & monologues by other creators – plus occasional filth! So shockingly the title does actually make some sense… \nExpect dynamic performance poetry\, engaging comedy\, songs\, impersonations\, voluminous crinolines\, plus guest appearances from some of her regular creative collaborators\, with just a touch of Love and Marriage… \nA passionate\, honest and celebratory show from a mercurial writer/performer; part personal testament\, part gender-fluid cabaret. \n“Illuminating Alice” and “Speaking Out and Fitting In” were originally co-commission by Colchester Arts Centre and Norwich Arts Centre\, plus Alice’s full Trans Tetralogy has been supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. \nTHE PERFORMER: Alice d’Lumiere\, is a gender-fluid East Anglian performer who grew up in Colchester. They are a theatre-maker\, playwright and performance poet\, and in two genders a regular contributor to the regional Arts scene\, possessing a long-standing creative partnership with Colchester Arts Centre and more recently a burgeoning artistic relationship with renowned producing theatre the Mercury. Alice has also been a regular performer and compere for Colchester Pride since its inception in 2017. All of Alice’s artistic output involves an element of personal challenge; playing with preconceptions and pushing herself to learn new and unlikely performance skills; from close-up magic to aerial hoop. Her last performance challenge\, “The Trans Lady Sings”\, involves attempting to become an opera singer with no previous musical experience and was born out of a “Developing Your Creative Practice” grant supported by Arts Council England’s programme. The development of this work into a full touring show has also been supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. In 2023 Alice took her show “Speaking Out and Fitting In!” to Le Printemps Anglophone Festival in Avignon for her very first European performance; which led\, in a roundabout way\, to her forthcoming challenge\, “The Literal Translation”; which involves her trying to overcome another childhood fear; speaking publically in another language… \nhttp://alicedlumiere.co.uk/https://www.facebook.com/MissADLumiere/ https://www.instagram.com/alicedlumiere@AlicedLumiere

SUMMARY:An Evening with Sculptor Laurence Edwards
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to be welcoming Laurence Edwards\, one of the UK’s most compelling contemporary sculptors to The Minories for a special double screening followed by a Q&A with artist and Minories Board member Jevan Watkins-Jones. \nLaurence will screen two short films – ‘A Thousand Tides’\, which follows a life-sized bronze figure startlingly submerged within the mudflats of Butley Creek and ‘The Yoxman’\, which follows the making of a 26-foot sculpture\, now standing on the A12 in Yoxford. \nEach film gives a rare insight into the two different processes and how the creative idea morphs into an extraordinary public work. After each film\, Laurence will talk about the back stories of the sculptures and will take your questions.
