This concert is flamenco music in its purest form\, but also incorporating elements of jazz.​You will experience harrowing moments in this thrilling performance\, courtesy of an exposed and powerful guitar\, percussion that will give the music strength and rhythmic vitality\, while the piano will bring jazzy notes that harmonise with flamenco sounds – a perfect fit\, given that both genres are derived from the cries of oppressed people.​​Following the excellent reception of his debut album\, Vejézate\, José released his follow-up\, Alejandra\, to critical acclaim in 2023\, and undertook an extensive UK tour last year to promote it.​Un Nuevo Paseo\, his third album\, was released this year. It marks a turning point in his career as it explores new sounds and a novel idea of flamenco fusion while always staying true to the genre’s core.​José is a virtuoso guitarist\, as anyone who saw his concert for us in June would attest. This is your chance to make amends if you missed him. You will not be let disappointed! \nJosé Almarcha (Guitar) Andre JahJah (Keyboard)Demi Garcia Sabat (Percussion). \nJosé Almarcha: \nBorn in Tomelloso\, Castilla La Mancha (the land of Don Quijote)\, José started playing guitar at a very young age and then went on to study flamenco at the Cordoba Conservatory of Music with great masters of the instrument such as Paco Serrano and Niño de Pura. \nA veritable virtuoso\, with an extensive artistic career\, he is a previous winner of the prestigious International Flamenco Guitar Competition\, Niño Ricardo. \nJosé’s tireless exploration of the instrument has allowed him to develop his own personal language\, which also highlights his outstanding technique. \nHe regularly composes for and performs with Spanish dance companies\, such as Olga Pericet\, Marcos Flores\, Antonio Canales\, Sara Calero\, and José Manuel Álvarez.

DESCRIPTION:The East of England Disabled Creatives Meet-Up is a free space for deaf\, disabled and/or neurodivergent creatives to meet\, share and create! \nAs artists\, don’t ask for permission. Take up space. For yourself and your work. We aim to provide that space for you! \nThis is a monthly in-person meet-up at the Mercury Theatre in collaboration with Graeae Theatre Company. \nWe welcome artists at any experience-level\, the aim is to establish a relaxed space for people to turn up for however long they wish within the meet-up session time. The meet-up is from 10am-1pm\, but you are welcome to drop-in anytime. \nWe will be meeting in the upstairs bar at the Mercury Theatre\, if you do not know where this is\, please ask a member of our Box Office or Front of House staff and they will guide you. \nIt will be an opportunity to network\, meet new artists in your area and develop your practice. \nThe Mercury’s Graeae Associate\, Christian Markham\, will always be in attendance to facilitate and/or answer any questions you might have about the Mercury\, Graeae\, or wider disabled arts initiatives.
