Stitch & Bitch: March

Mon, March 11, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Join us to learn how to make a re-usable grocery bag.

Our chosen charity for the year Colchester Foodbank need re-usuable bags for their service users to carry home their weekly food. We are pledging to make at least 50 for them through 2019. That’s just 1 per week, but we are sure as a group we can manage more than that!

The session is FREE, just bring along some cash for a drink/donation to our hosts Colchester Makerspace. We have a limited amount of wool and crochet hooks, we are happy to supply you some to get you started but please if you do have your own, do bring them along.

This evening is an introductory session into a bigger, ongoing project, and the idea is that you learn how to make a bag, in order to continue making them when you get home. You can then donate your bags directly to Colchester Foodbank, or bring them along to any other of our monthly sessions, where will will collect them up and donate them for you.

We’re a FREE informal crafty club that meets on the second Monday of every month. We set up the group as an excuse to get our stitch on with local ladies and gents.

Each session is FREE but you will sometimes be asked to bring certain materials/tools to attend.
Please bring along a little cash to donate to our venue, the lovely Colchester Makerspace, in return for some refreshments.

A Makerspace is simply a facility with shared access to workspace and tools for making. Established up and down the country, Makerspaces vary in size and the type of equipment they offer. From electronics and computing through to the more traditional metalwork and carpentry.

Colchester Makerspace at Trinity Works, specialises in providing access to Ceramics, Textiles and Printmaking equipment, such as kilns, silkscreens, letterpress and sewing machines. It will be expanding to more contemporary tools such as laser cutters and 3D Printers.

They provide an exciting programme of classes and if you catch the bug and want to use the facility on a more regular basis, after completing a short induction, self-serve access to the space and some of its tools, will be available via a monthly membership, starting at just £15 per month for a light user.

Colchester Foodbank Charity provides emergency food parcels to individuals and families who find themselves in sudden crisis.
