Exciting times for Appetite Book Club…
(…and Jamie Moakes and The Arts Centre and Jardine Bistro and Hidden Dingbats and Slack Space and Colchester generally!   Read to the end!)

January will be one of our biggest meet ups, with 48 of us sitting down to discuss the book, including 10 first timers. I look forward to putting faces to names and mixing everybody up.     You will only ever be in a group of 4 when seated.   We are meeting from 7.30pm and sitting down to eat at 8.30pm.     RED LION books are providing us with February’s book ‘THE ROOM’ by Emma Donoghue so please remember to bring cash if you would like to buy it (and support the local, indie shop).     I am struggling with the subject matter of ‘THE ROOM’ but fellow bookies have recommended it and the reviews are amazing so……Feb 23rd!

For March we will discuss the classic ‘COLD COMFORT FARM’.     Watch this space for a new book swapping/selling idea from Ellen… And for regular book club members, Wendy Woo – now living on a beach in Zanzibar and Georgie P (pregnant in Surrey) both say hello!

If you’re looking to burst your new Diary at the seams, then please consider joining me at one or all the following events:

Monday 24th Jan: “POLTICAFE @ Jardine” fRee coffee, fRee lecture, fRee flowing debate (2 spaces left)

Thursday 27th Jan: ARTS CENTRE The Jamie Moakes show ‘You Will Be Rare’ showcases Jamie’s fictional but functional HE SAID Talent Agency. Over the past year he has embarked on a one man mission to affect the economy by buying lots of the same thing. The show also features the design work of wonderful illustration team The Hidden Dingbat Collective. Overall a great showcase of the creativity in Colchester.   Please book through the Colchester Arts Centre

Monday 31st Jan: *complementary nibbles and drink on arrival* at THE VIVID GAZE art exhibition at Jardine (rsvp only)

Sunday 13th February: PUDDING CLUB @ Jardine 4-6pm
Homemade Lemonade on arrival, followed by a 5 course adventure onto Planet Pudding.   Puddings will be a manageable size and the third course will be a twist on ‘Afternoon Tea’ – chosen to cleanse the palate (and also provide a welcome cup of English Tea).   This event costs £18 and will be first come, first served so form an orderly queue and pre-book

I LOVE the idea of ‘Piano Friday’s’ at SLACK SPACE
Slack Space are getting a new piano! The piano will be available in the space all day Fridays (11am – 6pm) from February.   Aware that there’s lots of people out there who can play but don’t have access to a piano – please welcome PIANO FRIDAYS!   Just pop in and try it out!   They are looking for people to run either one off or regular events (e.g. ragtime, music hall sing along, master classes etc.)
