On Thursday 20th January it’s the turn of Videotapes.
Videotapes are a Colchester-based three-piece band who formed only last summer but since then they have gone from strength to strength. They’ve released two EPs, won the Colchester Youth Council Battle of the Bands, played Colchester Arts Centre for the ‘Gazette Presents’ Night and were named as one of 5 local bands to watch in 2011 by Neil D’arcy Jones for the Colchester Gazette, who said “In their poppy moments, they’re the La’s and the Coral and in their melodic folk numbers, they have a tinge of the Belle and Sebastian and Kings of Conveniences about them.”
Their blend of indie, folk and rock has earned them a loyal following, with gigs at Slack Space and local folk clubs helping to spread to word. A 4.5 out of 5 review in The Colchester Circle magazine and a ‘New Bands Panel’ feature on the popular blog for www.folkssake.com stand as testament to the exciting music the band is creating.
