Colchester Free Festival2010 marks the tenth anniversary of the Community Channel and to celebrate they’ve launched Community Champions,  “a nationwide campaign to encourage the people of Britain to nominate those unsung heroes who’ve put something back into their communities to help make them better places for us all to live and work”.

Ben Howard, Colchester Free Festival organiser and founder of Keep Colchester Cool, was nominated as a Community Champion  by Marc De’ath who said:

“Ben had the courage to create something truly unique in his home town Colchester. A town full of negative press, with a largely disjointed community and without earning a single penny, he launched an event to celebrate Colchester’s Culture and Heritage.

A not-for-profit, volunteer run festival of Music and Art, it joined people from all walks of life and is helping to restore civic pride. Attracting 15,000 on the day, it will undoubtedly reach much further.”
