WEDNESDAY 21ST JULY
POETRY
DOUBLE BILL
TIM CLARE: DEATH DRIVE
A comic true story that starts with a suicide pact and ends with a corpse. Sacked, dumped and stuck living back with his parents, failed writer Tim Clare struggled to see the point in carrying on. Then, during a 4am drive, his long suffering dad staged a dramatic last ditch bid to shake him out of his misery. Thus Tim began a quest to lose his cynicism and get happy. But when you’re faced with jeering teens, obnoxious neighbours, all six Rocky movies and a psychic horse, is there anything in this sordid world worth getting happy about? Death Drive blends first person stories with stand-up, verse and ukulele songs, drawing on material from his award-winning memoir We Can’t All Be Astronauts – and it all really happened.

MOLLY NAYLOR: WHENEVER I GET BLOWN UP I THINK OF YOU
How does it feel to have your world (literally) blown apart? Britain is booming and Molly moves to London on a quest to make her life just like the movies. After a farcical job search, too many parties and falling for a London tour guide Molly thinks she might be in a romantic comedy. Then she finds herself on one of the trains bombed on 7/7. Surely this sort of thing never happened to Meg Ryan? Funny and poetic, this is a true story about how we put things back together after they’ve been blown apart.
