With British writer and social historian, Ken Worpole (‘Brightening from the East: Essays on landscape & memory’, 2025), ‘a literary original… whose books combine the Orwellian ideal of common decency with understated erudition’ (The New Statesman). The relentless global relocation from countryside to cities, means ‘rural life will be increasingly inhabited by an ageing population’, an opportunity Warpole argues, ‘to reconfigure and innovate rural life as something not to be feared but as a chance for innovation and a renewal of local civic pride’.
