A brand new exhibition opens at Slack Space in Queen Street, Colchester, on Wednesday, 7th July 2010.

Oulipo, loosely translated as “workshop of potential literature”, is a collective of writers and mathematicians dedicated to creating work through constrained writing techniques. The movement was founded in 1960 by Raymond Queneau and François Le Lionnais. Other notable members have included Georges Perec, Italo Calvino, Oskar Pastior and Jacques Roubaud.

The exhibition will feature art, installations and writing inspired by the Oulipian tradition and is described as unique in the country. Oulipian poets will be invigilating the space throughout the run, offering insight into the works and answering questions from visitors.

The exhibition runs from 7 to 24 July. Slack Space is open Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 6pm.
