10.61°C Signals Media Arts Centre in Colchester will host free workshops this week in order to create four short films as part of a competition for the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
In an exciting five-day intensive programme, young filmmakers will learn all aspects of filmmaking and produce their own film contribution to the Olympics. The five days will include workshops covering scripting, lighting, camera operating, sound recording and editing, supported by media professionals.
The young filmmakers will produce short films celebrating the Games that explore the issues and cultural impact surrounding a global event such as the Olympics. The four films, made at Signals, will find inspiration from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic values of respect, courage, excellence, friendship, equality, determination and inspiration.
Signals Director Rachel Hipkiss said:
“This is a fantastic chance for young filmmakers to be part of something special. Not only will they gain new skills and experience in film production, but they will also have the opportunity for their films to be shown as part of the celebrations for London 2012. Signals is delighted to be part of this national project.”
As momentum builds towards 2012, the best films will also be showcased on giant London 2012 Live Site screens around the country, on the London 2012 website, and on a dedicated Film Nation website, with monthly awards leading up to an annual award winners’ ceremony. The winners’ work will be screened at iconic venues of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London 2012 to an audience of millions.
The Signals Media Arts Centre Film Nation: Shorts project will run from 10am–4pm for five days starting Thursday, 19th August. This major Cultural Olympiad project is delivered in partnership with Panasonic, Screen West Midlands, First Light and 104 Films with funding from the National Lottery.
