Keep Colchester Cool invites local faces to share their top ten tracks of all time. There are no rules – some will explain why they’ve chosen particular tracks; others won’t. Either way, it offers an insight into what has influenced some of our local heroes over the years.

This week, it’s the turn of Hobo Chang and The Wicked Ravens’ Fiona Harmon, who also hosts her own show, Ginger Roots, on Colne Radio. Incidentally, you can catch both Hobo Chang and The Wicked Ravens performing at Colchester Free Festival 2015 on Saturday.

Here are Fiona Harmon’s ten tracks. Enjoy!

There are just too many tunes to choose from for ‘all time’, but these come very close…

1. Mingus – Solo Dancer
From the 1963 album The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. This is super-fine goodness.

2. Big Brother and the Holding Company – Ball and Chain
The best band Janis was in. It was really hard picking which tune from the album Cheap Thrills, but this is up there for sure.

3. Echo and the Bunnymen – The Killing Moon
Reminds me of a long-ago time.

4. Roxy Music – If There Is Something
I’m not a Ferry fan at all and only like the songs Eno was on board for. I actually thought this was rubbish until I got past 1.40 seconds – then it all made sense.

5. Portishead – Wandering Star
This one has tipped me over the edge on occasion.

6. Donny Hathaway – A Song For You
Total soul and epic piano – soppy and reflective. A timeless classic.

7. Billie Holiday – All Of Me
Yeah, Billie gets me every time.

8. The Beatles – Golden Slumbers
Three songs in one – hope I get away with that.

9. David Bowie – Lady Grinning Soul
So hard to choose – it actually made me a bit anxious. However, after some deep breathing, this one ticks all the boxes.

10. Bob Marley and the Wailers – Concrete Jungle
Such a classic tune – the bassline is on the money.
