Ace Comics at 42 Culver Street East, Colchester, is hosting an in-store event on Saturday, 27th November 2010, to showcase the wide variety of styles and stories that comics have to offer.
The ‘Independents Day’ event will promote independent and alternative titles, rather than the superheroes that everyone already knows about. Mention comics to most people, and they picture costumed super-heroes such as Batman, Superman and Spider-Man from big publishers like Marvel and DC. But superheroes are far from the only genre that the medium has to offer.
The day aims to show just how diverse comics can be: from journalists in war-torn New York to awkward teenage romances, from hilarious comic strips to graphic novels that border on fine art, there is something for everyone, no matter their taste or age.
Ace Comics, founded in Colchester in 1981 by owner and managing director Martin Averre, will be offering a discount on selected independent titles throughout the shop, with displays featuring some of the finest comics and graphic novels from independent publishers. Staff will be on hand with friendly advice and a list of their personal favourite titles and top recommendations, making it the perfect opportunity to try something new.
