10.96°C Blues and Rock in the Garden is back on Saturday, 4th July 2026, with live music running from 2pm until late.
Now in its 27th year, the event has become a familiar part of Colchester’s summer for those who like their live music relaxed, varied and a little unconventional. Set in the gardens on Distillery Lane, it’s known for its friendly atmosphere, mixed-age crowd and a line-up that comfortably crosses genres.
This year’s event starts earlier than usual, with the afternoon focused on music, art and creative activity. Alongside the opening sets, visitors can expect live musicians, poets, workshops and an art exhibition. As the day moves on, the programme builds towards a more energetic evening finish.
The musical spread is deliberately broad, moving from jazz and sing-alongs through flamenco, big band vocals and global influences, before ending with funk, soul and rock later in the night.

2.00–3.00pm – Elmer’s Jazz Band
3.00–4.00pm – Brewkelele (ukulele sing-along)
4.00–5.00pm – Armoured Man (sea shanties)
5.00–6.00pm – Annemarie Quinn & John Fire (upbeat sounds from Malawi)
6.00–7.00pm – Tahir Burhan (flamenco guitar)
7.00–8.00pm – Fox, Wiggle and Sass (1940s big band vocal trio)
8.00–9.00pm – Band of Fools (Balkan gypsy)
9.00–10.00pm – The Gulls (rock, funk and psychedelia)
10.00–11.30pm – Funktion Junction (pop, rock and soul)
Food will be available throughout the day, including a BBQ and vegetarian and vegan options, plus cakes and desserts. A fully licensed bar will also be running, with some familiar quirks for regulars, including beer served by the watering can and cider poured from a plastic kettle.
The event raises money for Building Malawi, a charity that supports sustainable, locally run schools, libraries, and community facilities in Lilongwe. All funds raised go directly towards projects in Malawi.
The event is family-friendly. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. No dogs (except assistance dogs) and no picnics.

Tickets for Saturday event: £20 single (over 16). Students £10 (must present student ID). Under 16s £1 (under 16 must be accompanied by an adult). Under 5s FREE.
