On Monday 25th November, Coda will host a special evening of music commemorating the 50th anniversary of Nick Drake’s untimely death. Local talents Ady Johnson, The Gin Triplets, Stu E. Skinner, Jim Reynolds, Will Most, Dean Frost, Rev. Simpkins, Tyler Baker, and Rosalind Harniess will perform a carefully curated selection of Nick Drake’s most cherished songs alongside some of their own original work.

Nick Drake, often regarded as Britain’s most enigmatic folk musician, was a master of poignant songwriting. His introspective lyrics and hauntingly beautiful fingerstyle guitar technique have inspired generations of listeners and artists alike. In his short 26 years, Nick Drake recorded three albums – Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter, and Pink Moon – that now stand as pillars of folk music. Yet, during his lifetime, he remained an underappreciated artist, performing only a handful of times before retreating from public life.

This tribute gig, organised by the legendary Ben Benedetti, aims to honour this legacy, bringing together a lineup of Colchester artists who have drawn inspiration from Nick Drake’s timeless work.

For many, the magic of Nick Drake’s music speaks volumes, weaving themes of nature, melancholy, and isolation into songs that resonate deeply with listeners. Tracks like River Man and Northern Sky have cemented his place as one of the most poetic voices in British music history.

This concert not only remembers Nick Drake as the artist behind the music but also reflects on the enduring power of his songs, which continue to inspire audiences and musicians 50 years later.

Doors open at 7.45pm, and it’s free entry. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to Nick Drake’s music, this tribute at Coda offers a rare chance to experience the emotional depth and beauty of his work through the voices of local talent.
