Colchester resident and living legend Dr John Cooper Clarke will release the very first anthology of his work on 16th October 2015.
Titled Anthologia, the CD/DVD box set brings together classics such as Evidently Chickentown and I Wanna Be Yours, alongside live recordings from the Manchester Ritz and the Hulme Hippodrome. The accompanying booklet features written tributes from the likes of Paul McCartney, Alex Turner and Hugh Cornwell, with liner notes by Nick Kent.
Speaking on his website, Clarke said:
“Some of this stuff was recorded in a bugged room. Surreptitiously even. But not all of it. The more legitimate tracks, however, are worth checking if only for their piss-elegant trash antique value. Why did I go along with this? They said I’d be bigger than Sinatra. Who would argue? With my emphatically adenoidal pitch, who could have guessed I would develop into the high octane hot-shot that you have come to know – that’s perspective for you.”
The four-disc collection spans John Peel Sessions, alternative takes, rare live performances and television appearances, capturing Clarke’s journey from punk-era poet to enduring cultural icon.
Anthologia is available to pre-order now.
