American saxophonist Dave Lewis’ band pick up the standard from where The Crusaders, Rufus Thomas, and The Meters left off. His robust, raw, melodic, and lyrical playing has been heard with a notable list of artists, including John Martyn, Bryan Ferry, Joan Armatrading, John Mayall, Eric Clapton, and The Blockheads.
Dave’s St Louis roots shine through, as his sound is steeped in the blues, and this is perfectly matched by the soulful intensity and searing blues vocals of Lizzie Deane, who has performed with the likes of Pee Wee Ellis & Fred Wesley, Carleen Anderson, Mica Paris, Kim Mazelle, and Jocelyn Brown.
With her deeply soulful voice, warm persona, and infectious performance style, Lizzie’s voice has been described as a “powerful, show-stopping instrument”, and whilst retaining a strong individual identity, she has been compared to Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, Janis Joplin and Joss Stone.
A highly in-demand session vocalist, her many musical influences include Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The Jacksons, Etta James, Stevie Wonder, and Otis Reading.
The other members of this elite five-piece have worked with top-drawer talents such as Pee Wee Ellis, George Benson, Gregory Porter, Van Morrison, Gil Scott-Heron, George Coleman, Hugh Masekela, and Ronnie Laws.
Expect a choice set list of jazzy, soulful, funky, blues-drenched, deep grooves that are their trademark.
