– Raku firing is a rapid process, only a few objects at a time will be able to be fired; this means the session will be extended over the whole day

ABOUT RAKU
Raku is a rapid low-firing process that is inspired by the traditional Japanese Raku firing. Contemporary Western-style Raku involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat around 1000 centigrade and placing it into containers with combustible materials such as sawdust. Once the materials ignite, the containers are closed. This produces an intense reduction atmosphere which affects the colours in glazes and clay bodies. The thermal shock of this also produces cracking/crazing, producing unexpected outcomes.

If you have any questions regarding the course, please email hello@makercampus.co.uk
