Step into the immersive world of “There Will Be a Party,” a groundbreaking solo performance that intimately explores Luke’s journey with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Disorder. This unique show blends the authenticity of Luke’s personal experiences with the artistry of clowning, creating a participatory celebration of the diverse spectrum of neurodiversity.
Challenging societal perceptions of autism, the performance advocates for recognising and celebrating neurological differences instead of stigmatising them. Luke draws parallels between the performative nature of Autistic Masking and the Mask of the Clown, utilising improvisation, audience interaction, and Brechtian placards to guide the audience through the metaphorical “party” of masking.
The stage is adorned with party paraphernalia, symbolising the messy yet essential journey of masking in a neurotypical world. This cyclical narrative underscores the perpetual struggle for individuals on the spectrum to conform to societal norms. “There Will Be a Party” invites audiences to reflect on their own attitudes toward neurodivergence, challenging preconceptions and fostering understanding in a world where every autistic experience is a unique story waiting to be heard.
