Astor Piazzolla was an Argentinian composer whose works revolutionized the traditional tango into a new style termed “nuevo tango”. 100 years on, Polish musicians, Piotr Zubek and Janek Pentz are shedding new light on the thrilling work of this groundbreaking composer, reinvigorating his work with innovative, contemporary arrangements combining a jazzy approach to vocal improvisation with Janek’s unique acoustic fingerstyle guitar technique.

They prove that music, although written in a different language and thousands of kilometers away, knows no borders. They focused on the meeting of seemingly unknown cultures and explained the intertwined history of Poland and Argentina. It is a meeting with artists who enrich exotic musical material with their own Slavic sensitivity, often playing with sound, improvising, and “winking” at the audience. They emphasize the importance of mutual joy and contact in musical improvisation.

Piotr Zubek is a Polish jazz vocalist, songwriter, actor and broadcaster. He won over 300 music competitions in Poland and abroad. In 2020 placed in a list of “The Best Male Jazz Vocalists in Poland” organized by Polish Edition of JazzForum. He performed at the most important scenes in Poland (such as the National Theatre) with the greatest musicians in the country. For his debut album “Moja wycinanka” (“My cutout”) he was awarded by Polish Radio one of the most important musical awards in Poland – Mateusz (Matthew). In his artistic portfolio he has concerts all over Poland and in other European countries.

Janek Pentz is a fingerstyle guitarist and composer from Poland. He played joint shows with stars like Tommy Emmanuel, Andy McKee, Andrew York, Mike Dawes, Alex Misko or Daniel Cavanagh (Anathema). He was giving concerts in Poland, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Latvia, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, performing festivals and individual shows. He released three original albums. He’s acclaimed for his continuous touring and live appearances (more than 250 shows) as a solo fingerstyle virtuoso, but also for performing duets with the most iconic vocalists on the Polish scene like Edyta Geppert or Martyna Jakubowicz, adding his fresh musical approach to their legacy. He was also opening for Kwiat Jabłoni, Polish pop-stars at the National Stadium area. Winner of many prestigious competitions, recently of HASPA Guitar Cup in Hamburg, 2022.
