Female duo We Rock Like Girls Don’t play The Bull on Friday 9 April as part of the successful Raging Bull night, organised by Colchester band The 633, which brings touring acts to town each month alongside local support.
We Rock Like Girls Don’t formed when Glaswegian guitarist and vocalist Ros Cairney moved to London and met Greek-born, London-based drummer Vas Antoniadou.
Last year proved defining for the duo. They signed to Domino Publishing Company in August before travelling to Seattle to record new material with US producer John Goodmanson (Gossip, Death Cab For Cutie, Wu-Tang Clan). The sessions produced the single ‘Welcome To My World,’ blending rock ’n’ roll musicianship, stripped-back vocals, and strong pop choruses.
The year ended on a high when their album How Did It Get To This was shortlisted for Best British Debut Album at the XFM 2010 New Music Awards. Released last March, the album received strong critical acclaim, including an 8/10 review from NME, which described it as “the kind of awesome rock record we don’t hear often enough.”
Their appearance at Raging Bull forms part of a UK tour promoting the double A-side single Welcome To My World / Feeling Lonely Now, released on 26 April. A recent live review praised the “spectacular” band for delivering “an astonishingly fantastic set with jaw-dropping musicianship.”
Support on the night comes from Vellocetta and an acoustic set from The 633.
The show takes place in The Music Room at The Bull, Crouch Street. Doors open at 8pm and admission is free.
