YOLO and Club76 are excited to welcome DJs Seb Fontaine and Carly Wilford on the main stage as YOLO comes to Colchester for a spectacular closing season day party at Trilogy Nightclub, Colchester High Street, on Saturday 5th October.
Joining Seb Fontaine and Carly Wilford are Joe Friend, Matt Moore, Jay DJ, and Darren Shambhala. At the same time, Club76 presents Lou, Colin Plumb, JAT, Apollo, Vik Benno, and Bill Golden in Room 2. The event will also feature a laser show, lights, and CO2 cannons run by Nicky Campbell.
Early bird tickets are still available on Skiddle but going fast: £10 for standard, £15 for VIP (£20 and £25 on the day).
Background to the Event
YOLO and Club76 are two branded promotions that have been running underground house parties at small venues around the local area for a number of years. Their blend of happy, smiley party house, tech house, and Ibiza classics creates fantastic events. Darren Shambhala and Jay DJ, the respective organisers, are seasoned veterans of the dance music scene, and YOLO and Club76 promotions were set up to introduce new talent and give up-and-coming DJs a chance to perform in front of energetic crowds.
As a thank you to everyone who has followed, helped and performed at YOLO and Club76, they wanted to host a special end-of-season closing party.
“The idea for this event came from a chance visit to Trilogy on Colchester High Street early one Saturday,” Darren Shambhala recalls. “I knew the venue as the Hippodrome. While at the 6th Form College some 36 years ago, I spent many a fun Friday and Saturday night at the club. I couldn’t believe how different the venue is now that it’s Trilogy. They’ve really gone to town. The light show, laser show, and CO2 cannons are incredible. The sound is one of the best I’ve heard in a club for a while, and I’ve been fortunate to play many clubs in London and 20-plus different countries worldwide. The reconfiguration works so well, and they’ve kept the essence of the amazing historic old theatre building – it’s a stunning place.”
“After speaking to some YOLO regulars, it was clear there was a lot of love for the venue,” he continues. “Some remembered it as the Hippodrome, others as Attik or Liquid, while younger fans know it as Trilogy. One thing everyone had in common was fondness and nostalgia for the club. So the decision was made: Trilogy would be the venue.”
“There’s been a shift within clubbing, with events and festivals giving rise to an ‘early start, early finish’ culture. Previous YOLO and Club76 events naturally fell into the ‘day events’ category, as many venues close at midnight. This has helped YOLO develop a wide following – people can be home at a sensible time while others can carry on partying until the wee hours.”
“Day clubs are becoming more popular across the country, so it was only natural to stage a day party at Trilogy. The event timings were set: a 3pm start, and at 10pm, YOLO hands the night back to Trilogy for their usual Saturday programming.”
The early start and finish make the event ideal for clubbers who prefer an early night.
YOLO wanted to keep the spirit of the £10 party alive, so ticket prices have been kept as affordable as possible. Partnering with Club76 to host a second room made sense, with DJs Lou, Apollo, JAT, Colin Plumb, and Bill Golden playing alongside resident Jay DJ, bringing a brand of house music that complements the main stage. The £15 VIP ticket grants access to this room on the second floor, complete with its own bar and toilets, and access to the balcony with views directly over the main stage. It’s a great spot where those who need a breather can chill and watch the show.
The spirit of YOLO is inclusive, bringing a festival vibe inside the club. The event has attracted support from a wide variety of performers eager to add to the experience. On the day, expect to see members of “Love You Burlesque,” a local burlesque dance troupe, performing alongside festival face painters and other surprises, adding to the atmosphere.
YOLO has plans for more exciting events with more headline acts if this one is a success. YOLO hopes that by making events safe, weatherproof day parties with that special festival atmosphere inside a club, they’ll help recapture the original clubbing vibe and spirit.
