11.72°C Dave and Fiona Richards of The Bull have announced that they will not be renewing their lease when it ends on 31 July 2016.
In a statement released today, they said:
“It will be a very sad day for us after 9 years of creating a fantastic venue in Colchester. We have seen some amazing and talented musicians come through the doors and go on to bigger and better things. The support that you have given us has been phenomenal.
At this moment, we cannot say what will happen to The Bull, but we hope the next tenants will continue what we have created along the way.
We would like to say a massive thank you to all our customers, bands, hosts and staff, without whom this legacy would not have been possible.
Until the 31st, everything will continue as normal.

Over the past nine years, The Bull has become one of Colchester’s most important grassroots venues, supporting original live music and providing a home for countless bands, promoters and DJs.
On a personal note, I’ve lost count of the number of great nights I’ve been involved with there – whether through “Keep Colchester Cool presents” gigs or DJ sets. Dave and Fiona have been huge supporters of the town’s music scene, and they deserve enormous credit for what they’ve built.
Wishing them both the very best for whatever comes next.
