Jazz gig feat. Simon Spillett on sax
Jazz gig featuring the formidable multi-award winning tenor saxophonist Simon Spillett (BBC Jazz Awards, British Jazz Awards, Jazz Journal’s Album of The Year) at the lovely vegetarian/ vegan food café patch in Colchester.
Simon is one of UK’s top straight-ahead bop tenor sax players, who will keep you on the edge of your seats when he is playing high energy hard swinging bop but can equally drive you to tears playing heart-felt ballads.
He regularly features with his quartet as well as his ferocious big band consisting of A-listed UK jazz musicians at most UK’s mayor jazz festivals (incl. EFG London Jazz Festival, Brecon, Swanage, Scarborough, Wigan) and renowned jazz clubs such as Ronnie Scotts. Check out his website www.simonspillett.com
He fills most gaps in his calendar playing in smaller venues around the country and we are obviously more than happy to take advantage of his relentless passion to perform and are excited to host him as our special guest.
He will be accompanied by former local and now London-based stellar guitarist Samuel Plackett, talented double bassist Simon Wood, who is equally at home playing classical concerts and local jazz jam organiser Elmer Van Der Hoek on drums.
Gig 7.30-10pm: two sets with break, doors open 7pm.
Book early to avoid disappointment and please arrive timely as the band plays next to the entrance.
Tickets are £12, obtainable via https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/patchcolchester eg via the barcode.
Local beers, lovely wine, a selection of soft drinks and light bites will be available on the night.
