NEW TOWN KINGS – ANGRY VS THE BEAR – CAV OK – HOUSEWORK – VELLOCETTA – THE KURU SMILE – TOP DECK ALL STARS – MANIC MINOR – THE KIPLING CONSPIRACY
New Town Kings and Angry Vs The Bear have been announced as co-headliners of the Main Stage at the one-day music and arts festival taking place in Castle Park between 11am and 7pm on Saturday, 18th September 2010.
The festival forms the finale of a week of grassroots celebration and events featuring music, art and culture, taking place in venues throughout the town from Monday 13th through to Saturday 18th September.
New Town Kings, a popular nine-piece ska/reggae band, will grace the festival stage with their blistering live set, showcasing their unique, energetic sound, influenced by classic ska, punk and the Two Tone era. In 2010, the band have thrilled crowds at venues and festivals around the country, including a sell-out gig at Colchester Arts Centre. New Town Kings are currently recording their second album, which will be released in time for the festival.
Angry Vs The Bear will bring their frantic, noisy, fizzy electro pop-punk to the festival and will play in Colchester in the middle of a six-week UK tour. So far this year, the eccentric quartet have toured extensively, including appearances at the SXSW festival in Texas (for the second year running), and released their debut single Show Emotion, which was Pick of the Week on Huw Stephens’ Radio 1 show.
Joining the headliners on the Main Stage in Lower Castle Park will be Cav OK, Housework, Vellocetta, The Kuru Smile, Top Deck All Stars, Manic Minor and The Kipling Conspiracy. DJ support on the Main Stage comes from GrownSoul and Colchester legends DJ Gilly and Jeff Scott.
Music fans will also experience live performances on the second stage, located in Upper Castle Park, as well as from ‘Busk Stops’ throughout the park and from various music workshops taking place throughout the day.
Festival organiser Ben Howard of Keep Colchester Cool said: “We’re delighted to announce New Town Kings and Angry Vs The Bear as co-headliners for the Main Stage of Colchester! Free Festival. Both bands have proved to be among the biggest acts in Colchester over the past year and, along with a brilliant line-up on the day and throughout the week, we’ll be giving local festival fans a wonderful event that celebrates the town’s vibrant music scene.”
