To celebrate 25 years of Signals Media Arts Centre, Signals is hosting a special open day on Saturday, 13 July 2013, from 11am to 5pm.

Signals began life as the Colchester Film Makers Workshop in 1982, involving students and graduates from the University of Essex. As demand for services grew, Signals, Essex Media Centre Ltd was established in July 1988. Throughout the 1990s, the organisation built a strong reputation for community and educational work. In 1997, a National Lottery award enabled Signals to purchase new equipment and move to its current premises at Victoria Chambers in Colchester town centre.

Today, Signals is an award-winning charity working predominantly with children and young people across Essex. It delivers accessible workshops and training opportunities for all, including disadvantaged groups, helping to build confidence and communication skills. Films created through Signals projects have won awards and been screened at national and international festivals.

The open day offers a chance to find out more about their work and even try your hand at filmmaking.
