To celebrate 25 years of Signals Media Arts Centre, Signals are hosting a special open day this Saturday, 13th July between 11am and 5pm.

Signals started as the ‘Colchester Film Makers Workshop’ in 1982, which involved students, and graduates from the University of Essex. As a result of increased demand for services ‘Signals, Essex Media Centre Ltd’ was established in July 1988. During the 1990’s Signals grew and gained a reputation for community and educational work. In 1997 a National Lottery award was used to purchase new equipment and Signals moved to its current premises at Victoria Chambers in Colchester’s town centre.

Today Signals is an award winning charity that works mostly with children and young people throughout Essex. It provides accessible workshops and training for everyone. Signals also works with disadvantaged groups helping develop confidence and communication skills. Films made by the children and young people Signals works with win awards and are shown at national and international festivals.

Help Signals celebrate this year and come along to the open day to learn a little more about what they do and maybe have a go at making a film.

There are FREE drop-in workshops during the open day:

11am to 4pm – Make your own 3D animation.
