Every time Nathan falls asleep, he wakes up a year and a day into the future.
That’s where A Year and a Day begins.
Christopher Sainton-Clark‘s award-winning solo play comes to the Mercury Theatre Studio as part of this year’s Colchester Fringe Summer Weekender.
Nathan starts the story as a young Irishman in the 1950s. An unexplained curse means he only exists for one day each year, leaving him to watch the lives of the people he loves unfold while trying to put right the mistakes of his past.
Set between County Meath and Norfolk, the play weaves Irish folklore into its time-travel story.
“I want audiences to know they’re going to be taken on a journey,” Chris said.
“They’re going to see a high-concept and cinematic time-travel thriller presented in a stripped-back and intimate storytelling style.”
Chris, who grew up in Norwich, first performed A Year and a Day in 2023 before taking it onto the fringe festival circuit. Since then, the play has won awards in the UK, the Czech Republic and New Zealand, with productions now planned in Philadelphia and Taiwan.
A Year and a Day will be performed at the Mercury Theatre Studio on Thursday 23rd, Friday 24th, and Saturday 25th July as part of the Colchester Fringe Summer Weekender.
