The 1990s have become big business.

Theatre shows, reunion tours and television programmes all promise to take us back to the decade of Tamagotchis, dial-up internet and Britpop. Adam Larter‘s new comedy has other ideas.

Who Remembers the 90s? comes to Three Wise Monkeys as part of the Colchester Fringe Summer Weekender, taking the familiar nostalgia show and turning it on its head.

“It’s a playful skewering of the nostalgia show,” Adam said. “The aim is to warmly revisit your favourite childhood moments and do so in the most ridiculous way possible.”

Expect what Adam describes as “an elaborate rock and roll PowerPoint presentation rollercoaster through Tamagotchis, New Labour and dial-up internet.”

Adam grew up in Burnham-on-Crouch, spending the whole of the 1990s in Essex, so bringing the show to Colchester feels like something of a homecoming before it heads to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

He’s also the founder, writer and director of the award-winning Weirdos Comedy collective, known for creating alternative comedy shows that regularly defy expectations.

Asked what he’d like audiences to know before booking, Adam offered one final thought.

“I’d like them to know that Billy Crystal turned down the part of Buzz Lightyear.”

Who Remembers the 90s? will be performed at Three Wise Monkeys on Friday 24th July and Saturday 25th July as part of the Colchester Fringe Summer Weekender.
