Last year the Dead Rat Orchestra from Colchester composed and recorded a soundtrack for a documentary made by Intrepid Cinema for the BBC.
The documentary is titled the Guga Hunters of Ness and will be broadcast on Thursday 20th January at 9pm and screened on BBC2 Scotland, which can be accessed by those with Sky digital, and will also be available on the BBC iPlayer. There will be a behind the scenes short film on the BBC website from next week.
It’s another positive step for the Dead Rats who were sought out by the director to compose and record the soundtrack. Later this year the band are heading over to Canada, having been invited by Godspeed You Black Emperor to play at a festival in Montreal and cut an album at their studios, Hotel 2 Tango. They are also currently in discussions to play the Brancharge Film Festival in Jersey, which has previously hosted the likes of British Sea Power.
Dan Merrill from the Dead Rat Orchestra said, “The Dead Rats remain a band that are really proud of our roots, and would not be the band we are if it were not for the support we had received locally, from venues like Colchester Arts Centre, where we all met, and the backing of people like Anthony Roberts and Stafford Glover. We hope that we will have the opportunity to bring some of the adventures this way too.”
