Each week, Keep Colchester Cool invites local faces to provide us with their top ten tracks of all time. There are no rules, some will explain why they’ve chosen particular tracks; other’s won’t. Either way, it promises to provide an insight into what has influenced some of our local heroes over the years.

This week, it’s the turn of guitarist and all round musician Carl Seager who is one of the masters of the Colchester music scene that Keep Colchester Cool now promotes. Over the years he’s been in, well, quite a few bands… Cosmology, Bloody Mary, The Witches, Plod, Poke, Dandy Rat And The Footpads, Flying Heroes, Steve Linton Band, Choko, Front Page News, Harlequin, England’s Pride, Hog Nosed Skunks, The Committed, Richard Dobney Trio, Dibble And Grubb, Brian Lee, Voodoo Sun, Pete Thompson BandLos Trios Amigos and The Flying Zeroes. And more, I’m sure!

Here are Carl Seager’s top ten tracks. Enjoy!

1. Les Paul & Mary Ford – I’m Confessin’ (That I Love You)
I still have the original 78 which my parents used to play when I was a nipper. It’ll always be my number 1.

2. Fats Domino – BlueBerry Hill
Again, a favourite of my parents which fast became a favourite of mine too.

3. The Beatles – If I Fell
Used to sing this in the car with my brother and sisters as a kid. Harmonies to die for.

4. The Beach Boys – Heroes And Villains
Talking harmonies to die for…

5. Joni Mitchell – Song For Sharon
Probably one of only two songs which had the power to reduce me to tears.

6. Janis Ian – At Seventeen
This is the other one.

7. David Bowie – Starman
Theme song to my teenage freedom.

8. Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac – Need Your Love So Bad
The song that first made me want to pick up a guitar.

9. AC/DC – Whole Lotta Rosie
Just perfect Rock’n’Roll.

10. Flying Heroes – Aerodrome
It never bothered me too much what others thought of my own music though it was clearly a bonus if they happened to like it. Fact is, I’m proud of this and it’s what all the previous songs led to for me so it’s on my top ten playlist. Conceited I know…but there it is.
