Colchester’s Local Music Awards will take place at The Twist on Thursday, 18 October 2012.

The awards are being organised by the Leftfield Retro Show on Radio Wivenhoe. The idea is to acknowledge and celebrate the growing music scene in Colchester and the surrounding area.

The event will also raise funds for the Colchester SOS & Community Bus.

The night will be hosted by Dave McPherson, lead singer of British rock band InMe.

Best Band

Plaitum, Dingus Khan, Surfquake, Chase the Enemy, Dead End Liars, Alice Rock, Ben Wood & The Bad Ideas, Ghost Train Porters, Denial Twist, Gareth & The Shark, Stoney Road, Catrinas, Newtons Apple, Videotapes, Rik Spanner & The Tickturds, Buzzards, Pistols & Vultures.

The award will be presented by producer and studio engineer Simon Gogerly, Grammy winner for his work on How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. His recent projects include Manic Street Preachers and N-Dubz.


Best Solo

Nominees:
Snippet, Lizzie B, Buddy Lee Dickens, Cherchen Man, Ellie Cornell, Joe Boyd, Slow Life, George Henry King.

The award will be presented by female artist Lettie.


Best Venue

Nominees:
The Bull, Judge and Jury, The Twist.

Presented by Adam Fox of Open Road, alongside volunteers from the Colchester SOS Bus.


Outstanding Contribution 2012

Presented jointly by Olympic torch bearer Tracey McGill and Team GB athlete Dominic King.

Voting Information

The Best Band, Best Solo and Best Venue categories will be decided by public vote. Voting opens on Wednesday, 29 August and closes on Sunday, 30 September 2012 via www.radiowivenhoe.co.uk.

Only one vote per person per category is permitted.

Outstanding Contribution and Best Song will be chosen by the show’s team.

Votes will be counted after the closing date, with finalists going through to the live event at The Twist. Winners will be announced on stage and presented with trophies.


On the Night

Live music will come from Lettie, Benjamin Bloom and an acoustic set from Dave McPherson. Some nominees will also perform short plug-and-play sets.

Soldiers in full regalia from the Colchester Roman Society will form a guard of honour.
