Kicking off this project before the Carlisle game on Friday 27th August is Housework, a five-piece funk outfit from Colchester, Essex who have caused quite a stir in the burgeoning local music scene over the past year. Armed with an arsenal of original material, Pete, Paul, Richard, Matt and Geoff have made it their mission to bring funk back to the masses.
Their sound is rooted in funk/soul/jazz/blues and this certainly shines through, however they like to inject some clout in the form of rock guitar riffs and powerful solos backed by hard, but sensitive beats. In musical style, Housework gravitate between the smooth funk of Jamiroquai and the edgy funk rock of early Red Hot Chili Peppers, both of which are large influences on their music.
Earlier this month Housework’s track ‘The Fire’ was aired on BBC 6Music’s Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show and reviewers have drawn comparisons to the likes of James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, stating that, “their funky vintage soulful sound is classic and timeless†and that “there is nothing like this in the Essex local music sceneâ€. Housework are definitely one to watch.
Colchester United Media Manager, Matt Hudson said “We were keen to improve an already popular matchday experience here at the stadium, and inviting the best of local music to the stadium seemed to be a great way of not only giving our fans a little extra, but also giving local bands the chance to spread the word about the great music that they’re producing.â€
Ben Howard, founder of Keep Colchester Cool added “There are some great plans at the stadium for future music events so I was delighted to put some bands forward as it’s a brilliant and new way to showcase the Colchester music scene.â€
