Renowned UK Jazz Singer, Beverley has performed at leading clubs throughout the UK and Europe including Ronnie Scotts Upstairs, Pizza Express Jazz Club, 606 Club, The Stables, Cleo Lane’s prestigious venue, Gregory’s in Rome and Venice Jazz Club, to name a few and headlined at Marsden Jazz Festival 2019 with her band of leading young U.K. musicians.
Dream Dancer, Beverley’s latest album focuses on Beverley’s original takes on songs of hope, passion, of living life to the full, of day dreaming, regret, love lost and love found and ultimately of dancing through the game and rhythm of life. The album was produced by Grammy winning New York producer Jason Miles (Luther Vandross, Miles Davis, Sting).
The material contains some of the finest songs and song-writers in the jazz repertoire with fresh new takes, such as Let’s Face The Music & Dance, given interesting syncopation, Daydream in ¾ and Winter Moon re-visited in 12/8, highlighting both Beverley’s comparison to Anita O’Day and her ability to let the band stretch out. True to form, Beverley also includes original interpretations such as David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance,’ original songs from U.K. legend Duncan Lamont and extremely individual renditions such as (voice, piano and flute) on Bill from Showboat, that Beverley calls an ‘Ode to the ordinary man.’
Beverley will be singing songs from Dream Dancer, some fresh, exciting takes on her favourite standards and interpretations from other genres and some original, self-penned tunes, written in the jazz and blues idiom.
As she scats and solo’s with her musicians, Beverley continually demonstrates her deeply ingrained jazz sensibility on these imaginative, intelligent arrangements; the interaction between voice and instrument masterful and assured.
Producer Jason Miles (Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Sting) says, “Beverley has one of those voices that you can keep on listening to. I just don’t hear many jazz singers today like her.”
As jazz reviewer Richard Salvucci said in All About Jazz, ‘Beirne not only has fun, but makes you think!’
‘The second CD by Beverley Beirne to be produced by Jason Miles is successful because all the elements are exactly right…it isn’t often that all these things come together on one new record but here they do.’ JAZZ JOURNAL 4 ****
‘Beirne’s voice has an instrumental quality and a glorious rich tone. A great new album. Superb!’ BBC RADIO ULSTER, Jazz World ‘A Standout!’ SOMETHING ELSE REVIEWS 4****
‘Her deep, soulful and highly flexible vocals have attracted justifiable comparisons with Cleo Lane, but Beirne is very much her own woman.’ THE JAZZMANN
‘Beirne sings without a net…a tour de force performance!’ JAZZ VIEWS
‘Jazz Just Wants To Have Fun may have brought Beverley Beirne to the attention of an audience not familiar to jazz music; Dream Dancer emphasises why she is considered by many to be one of the leading vocalists in British Jazz.’ SIMPLYJAZZTALK
‘Beirne’s vocals often sound like the phrasing of a tenor saxophone. She knows how to hit those notes and get in between the cracks of them like a virtuoso instrumentalist.’ LA JAZZSCENE
With Andy Hamill on Double Bass and John Crawford on piano.
