On May the third, Headgate unplugged brings the best local artists to the forefront, in our intimate and personal performance stage to celebrate and bring the Colchester acting and musical arts together.

All Acoustic, this event allows you to sit down, chill out and take in the music. Switching the standings for the seating to be easily relaxed and allow you to enjoy the music as it unfolds.

ADY JOHNSON
Suffolk born and Colchester based antique furniture restorer/ legendary local musician, Ady Johnson has been an integral figure in the Colchester scene since his first notable public performance in 2010 after busking outside BBC 6 Music’s event to celebrate there win against its closure. Since then he has released two publicly and critically acclaimed LPs and EP, enjoyed numerous festival appearances, a tour of the united states and tour of the united kingdom. Ady Johnson has established himself as one of the UK’s most inventive songwriters.
The Runner (single), released on 28th October 2022, was chosen for BBC Music Introducing Essex’s ‘Weekly Vibe’. Inspired by when Ady used to go running through Nunhead Cemetery in south east London, the song deals with (in part) confronting fears of mortality. Imagery evoked in the song is reflected in the original album art by Ady’s stepfather David Leeming. The Runner was recorded live (vocals and guitar simultaneously) with no click track and minimal overdubs, with the aim in capturing an intimacy and authenticity not often heard in many of today’s recordings. This approach is currently serving as the blue print for Ady’s eagerly awaited third album.

TYLER BAKER
Colchesters Tyler Baker is a 16 year old singer-songwriter who has been independently recorded and releasing music under the name Gasoline Green since November 2022. His upcoming album ‘The Ruins Of Liminal Land’ will be released on 21st March 2024 and he is influenced by artists like Radiohead, Car Seat Headrest, abd The Microphones.

ANNIE MAGUIRE

Essex based singer-songwriter Annie Maguire has a very unique and uplifting sound, with a mixture of influences from country-folk to soul and blues. Her songs are both vulnerable and relatable and this is felt through her melodies and lyricism. You can find two of her songs on Spotify, with more music to come throughout the coming year.
