John Kirkpatrick: 200 Years of the Squeezebox
Tickets £17.50 / £15.50 concessions.
Doors open 7.30pm, starts 8pm.
This gig is for a seated audience.
John Kirkpatrick romps through two hundred years of popular tunes to showcase the range and versatility of these cheerful little instruments, with a programme that reaches way beyond his usual folk roots. You’ll hear themes from the classics, light music, well-loved songs, nostalgic signature tunes, dance music of all kinds, and the occasional lugubrious hymn by way of contrast. With a life-time’s experience of running up and down the push-pull scale of the Anglo Concertina, the Melodeon, and the Button Accordion, John keeps it bright and breezy in a selection that highlights the hits of the day, from the 1820s, when squeezeboxes first appeared, right up to the present day.
