Hugo Max presents his fifth UK tour performing live soundtracks on solo viola alongside masterpieces of silent cinema.

Halloween classics Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Häxan and The Lodger are given visceral new life through Max’s dramatic scores.

Joining the programme this year are two pivotal works celebrating their centenary: Lotte Reiniger’s animated triumph The Adventures of Prince Achmed and Teinosuke Kinugasa’s avant-garde nightmare A Page of Madness.

A celebration of mystery, magic and madness for all ages, Max will make appearances at many of the UK’s most cherished cinemas.

Biography

Hugo Max is a musician and filmmaker based in London. He performs live scores to silent films on solo viola, regularly soundtracking screenings at London’s Prince Charles Cinema, Picturehouse Cinemas and arts venues across the UK and Europe.

He has presented nationwide tours focussing on silent horror, expressionism, the films of F. W. Murnau and Alfred Hitchcock and has devised interdisciplinary performances at the BFI Southbank, Austrian Filmmuseum and the Locarno Film Festival.
