The Summer Of Witches Ghost Hunt -The Chelmsford Witch Trials Matthew Hopkins The Witch Finder General

Haunting Nights are taking you on a series of terrifying ghost hunts and interactive ghost walks

July and August have several significant dates relating to the English witch trial of the 1600s and we are taking you on ghost adventures to the epicentre of these infamous witch trials and where many poor souls lost their lives for being a ‘Witch’

In The Summer of 1645 on the 29th July the accused witches from the sleepy villages of Manningtree and Mistly were publicly hanged for being a ‘Witch’ these executions became known as The Chelmsford Witch Trials

On this Summer Of Witches Special Anniversary Ghost Hunt our base for the night is the inn where Matthew Hopkins took his first witch from an inn which he resided in the adjoining property.

On confession Elizabeth Clarke named 5 other witches form Manningtree and Mistly and so began the infamous Chelmseford With Trials

It has been reported many times that the ghost of Matthew Hopkins, the self-proclaimed Witchfinder General, can been seen, especially on nights of a full moon

The ghostly apparition is seen dressed in 17th century clothing close to Mistley ‘ducking’ Pond and the nearby ‘hopping’ bridge not far from St. Marys Church, Mistley.

Other reports claim that the ghost of his first victim, the elderly and crippled Elizabeth Clarke appears on the shores of Seafield Bay.

Elizabeth was dragged out of the Red Lion public house in Manningtree by

Matthew Hopkins as he loudly accused her of being a witch, following a previous accusation by the local tailor John Rivet. Elizabeth was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging.

This conviction convinced Hopkins that he was right to accuse her so he proclaimed himself the Witchfinder General

Join the team as we investigate the hauntings of Matthew Hopkins Witch Finder General.

During the night you will have the opportunity to use various methods of ghost hunting to include Victorian seances, Ouija boards, table tipping and glass moving as well as the more up to date methods.
