Whether you’re swapping World Cup stickers, discovering new live music or heading out for a night of funk, there’s plenty happening across Colchester this week. Here are five events taking place between Saturday and Friday, featuring local artists, touring musicians and a healthy dose of nostalgia.
On Saturday 20th June, Oi Mate!, who describe themselves as “wonk-punk curators of throwaway culture”, headline Three Wise Monkeys. Expect a lively mix of punk energy, humour and chaos, with support from Dead Pretty, Psychic Pimps and Luke Fisher & The Ghost Tides.
Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6.
Roots & Grooves stays open later on Monday for a World Cup Sticker Swap event. Collectors of all ages are invited to bring along their Panini albums, spare stickers and swaps. Whether you’re trying to complete a team or just reliving childhood memories, it’s a chance to revisit those glorious days of “got, need, swap” and share the excitement with fellow collectors.
Runs from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Free entry.
On Wednesday, Friends of St Leonard-at-the-Hythe welcome singer-songwriter Julie Murphy for an intimate solo performance. Born in London and raised in Essex, Murphy is best known for her work with folk group Fernhill and for exploring traditional song, poetry, and personal songwriting through the natural voice. The concert takes place in the historic church setting.
Starts at 7pm. Free entry.
Colchester Arts Centre hosts the latest Keep Colchester Cool collaboration on Friday. Gasoline Green will be launching Waltz Unformed, the second single from the forthcoming double album End Piece. Simon Craze brings songs from his Input Process Output trilogy, while Tom Corbyn, whose latest release is Damn, completes the bill.
